MikroTik cAP XL ac Access Point – High-Performance WiFi for SMB Networks
The MikroTik cAP XL ac is a dual-band ceiling access point with a high-gain antenna and built-in reflector, designed for extended wireless coverage in offices, hotels, restaurants, and commercial spaces where signal must reach uniformly in all directions without obstacles. Compared to previous cAP models, the improved antenna and integrated reflector increase the covered area by up to 100%, eliminating the need for additional devices to cover the same surface. Ceiling mounting positions the access point above typical obstacles — large televisions, metal cubicle walls, shelving — maximizing coverage while keeping the device discreet and physically inaccessible to unauthorized users.
The access point features a quad-core ARM IPQ-4018 processor running at up to 896 MHz with 128 MB RAM, managed via RouterOS (License Level 4). Dual-band dual-chain AC1200 wireless covers 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 4 (300 Mbps, 6 dBi antenna) and 5 GHz Wi-Fi 5 (867 Mbps, 5.5 dBi antenna) in 360 degrees, providing uniform coverage without dead zones across large areas. Two Gigabit Ethernet ports with 802.3af/at PoE-in on the first port and passive PoE-out up to 57V on the second allow powering and connecting adjacent devices — switches, IP cameras, or another cAP — over a single cable.
The cAP XL ac integrates into centrally managed wireless networks through CAPsMAN in RouterOS, enabling simultaneous configuration and management of multiple units from the main router interface. It supports repeater mode for wireless network extension where cabling infrastructure is unavailable, and passive PoE-out on Ether2 simplifies installation in spaces with limited outlet access. The included K-81 mounting kit and ceiling bracket enable quick installation on any ceiling type.
It is recommended for open-plan and cubicle offices where physical obstacles block signal from wall-mounted access points, hotels and hospitality venues requiring discreet coverage of rooms and common areas, restaurants and commercial spaces with moderate wireless client density, and infrastructures where a single high-gain ceiling access point must replace two or more previous-generation devices. An operating temperature range of -40°C to +70°C and CE, FCC, IC certifications confirm suitability for commercial environments across Europe and North America.
