MikroTik CCR2216-1G-12XS-2XQ Router – High-Performance Enterprise Router
The MikroTik CCR2216-1G-12XS-2XQ is the flagship Cloud Core Router with a 16-core ARM64 CPU at 2 GHz, 12 x 25G SFP28 ports, 2 x 100G QSFP28 ports, and a Marvell Prestera Aldrin2 chip with L3 Hardware Offloading — designed for large ISPs, data centers, and enterprise infrastructures where large-scale traffic processing and low latency are critical operational requirements. It is widely used as a core router in high-traffic networks, a 100G aggregation node in multi-tier topologies, and a direct upgrade for existing CCR1072 installations — with backward compatibility preserved for hot-swap power supplies and SFP modules from the previous generation. The 16-core CPU performance is comparable to the 72-core Tile CPU of the CCR1072 at lower power consumption.
The router is built on an ARM64 AL73400 with 16 cores at 2 GHz and 16 GB RAM, managed via RouterOS v7 (License Level 6 — the highest available). The Marvell Prestera Aldrin2 98DX8525 chip — the same as in the CRS518 — provides L3 Hardware Offloading through 4 x 25G CPU connection lines, compared to 4 x 10G lines in the CCR2116, eliminating bottlenecks in large-scale routing scenarios. The 12 SFP28 ports support 25G, 10G, and 1G for full compatibility with existing equipment, while the 2 QSFP28 ports provide 100G uplinks or downlinks. The 2 M.2 SATA slots allow adding local storage for logging, data collection, or advanced RouterOS applications.
The CCR2216-1G-12XS-2XQ features 4 hot-swappable fans and 2 hot-swap AC power supplies with a 100-240V input range — components replaceable without powering down the equipment. The power supplies are compatible with the CCR1072, allowing reuse of existing investments during upgrade. The RJ45 console port, Gigabit Ethernet management port, and CPU and PCB temperature monitoring alongside voltage monitoring provide complete operational visibility and direct access for configuration and troubleshooting in critical production environments.
It is recommended for large ISPs and network operators requiring a core router with 100G L3 Hardware Offloading and large-scale traffic processing, data centers building or expanding 100G infrastructures with carrier-grade throughput and latency requirements, existing CCR1072 installations upgrading to ARM64 performance and 100G connectivity while reusing compatible components, and any critical infrastructure where full redundancy of hot-swappable power supplies and fans is a mandatory availability requirement. An operating temperature range of -20°C to +60°C and CE certifications confirm suitability for high-availability technical environments.
