MikroTik BaseBox 5 – Outdoor Wireless Access Point for SMB / Enterprise Networks
MikroTik BaseBox 5 is an outdoor wireless unit for the 5 GHz band, featuring dual-chain 802.11a/n radio, a Gigabit Ethernet port, a miniPCI-e slot and a weatherproof enclosure, designed for deployment as an outdoor access point, CPE device or wireless backbone in ISP and enterprise networks. Widely used in outdoor point-to-point and point-to-multipoint links, it provides a flexible platform where the miniPCI-e slot enables adding a second radio for dual-band or dual-radio configurations.
Two external RP-SMA Female connectors allow connection of directional or omnidirectional 5 GHz antennas depending on the deployment scenario, while three additional antenna connector positions are available for configurations expanded with miniPCI-e cards. The outdoor enclosure opens with one hand and includes a cable hood for moisture protection, with USB, Ethernet and grounding wire exits on the bottom behind a protective cover. The included pole mounting loop and DIN rail mount cover the main installation scenarios without additional purchases.
BaseBox 5 runs RouterOS level 4 with support for routing, bridging, VPN and advanced wireless management including CAPsMAN for centralized administration in multi-unit deployments. The USB slot and mini SIM slot extend connectivity for scenarios using a 3G/4G modem as internet backup. Passive PoE powering with an 8-30 V input range and a 12 W draw simplify installation on towers and masts where the power source is remote.
Recommended for ISPs building outdoor 5 GHz wireless distribution infrastructure with CPE or backbone equipment, for outdoor point-to-point and point-to-multipoint links where external antenna flexibility and the miniPCI-e expansion slot are required, for deployments where pole or DIN rail mounting and remote PoE powering are installation requirements, and for enterprise networks needing a robust outdoor 5 GHz AP with full RouterOS capabilities.
