MikroTik NetBox 5 – Outdoor 5 GHz Wireless Access Point for SMB and Enterprise Networks
The MikroTik NetBox 5 is an outdoor dual-chain 802.11ac client device for the 5 GHz band, built for CPE and backbone installations where high-power AC connectivity, IP54 protection, and straightforward pole or DIN rail mounting are baseline requirements. Widely deployed as a client-side device in ISP 5 GHz networks or for point-to-point links, it combines RP-SMA connectors for external antennas with a compact weatherproof enclosure that opens with one hand.
The dual-chain 802.11ac transmitter on the QCA9882 chipset delivers data rates up to 867 Mbps across 20/40/80 MHz channels, with backwards compatibility for 802.11a/n equipment — ISPs can replace legacy 802.11a/n access points with AC hardware without disconnecting clients on older devices. The QCA9557 CPU at 720 MHz and 128 MB RAM support full RouterOS Level 4 functionality for advanced routing, firewall, and VPN configurations directly on the client device.
Ethernet cable and grounding wire exits are protected on the underside of the enclosure by a dedicated cover — a relevant detail for installations exposed to long-term moisture and precipitation. The IP54 enclosure opens with one hand for rapid field servicing, and the included pole mounting loop and DIN mount cover the most common installation scenarios. The package — Gigabit PoE injector and 24V power adapter — covers a complete installation without additional purchases.
It is the right fit for ISPs installing 5 GHz CPE client equipment with external antennas for medium and long distances, for replacing legacy 802.11a/n equipment with AC without impact on connected clients, for outdoor point-to-point links where IP54 and simple mounting reduce installation time, and for scenarios where RouterOS on the client device enables advanced configurations beyond standard CPE firmware.
