Ethernet Surge Protector for Network Equipment MikroTik GESP
MikroTik GESP is a Gigabit Ethernet surge protector in an IP67 weatherproof enclosure, designed to protect network equipment from lightning strikes and voltage surges on exposed Ethernet cables. It is deployed by ISPs, integrators, and outdoor network operators in installations with antennas on masts, CPE devices on buildings, and any long cable runs exposed to atmospheric conditions. It is the essential protection component for any outdoor wireless infrastructure where a lightning strike or surge can destroy switches, routers, and access points worth hundreds of euros.
GESP absorbs transient current with a response to surge voltage of 1 kV/μs and provides ESD protection compliant with IEC 61000-4-2, IEC 61000-4-3, IEC 61000-4-4, and IEC 61643-21 — ±8 kV contact and ±15 kV air discharge. The supported discharge current is 3 kA (8/20μs), the DC spark-over voltage is 75V at 100V/s, and the minimum insulation resistance of 1 GΩ at 50V guarantees no data line losses from the protection device itself. The RJ45 male/female connector provides direct compatibility with any 10/100/1000 Ethernet equipment with passive PoE support, without affecting network performance.
The IP67 enclosure protects the unit from rain, dust, and humidity in permanent outdoor installations. The operating range from -40°C to +70°C ensures reliable operation in any climatic conditions, and the included K-73 fastening set simplifies mounting on a mast, rack, or any grounded structure. For maximum protection, MikroTik recommends installing one GESP at each end of long cable runs — both near the antenna or outdoor equipment and near the indoor switch or router. Units can absorb multiple impacts, but their condition should be checked after each major incident.
Recommended for installations with antennas and CPE devices on masts or buildings exposed to lightning strikes, ISPs deploying outdoor wireless networks with long cable runs between equipment, and integrators protecting switches, routers, and access points from surges on Ethernet lines. Suitable as standard protection for any outdoor Ethernet connection where the cost of the protected equipment justifies this minimal protection investment.
