MikroTik cAP ax Access Point – High-Performance WiFi 6 for SMB Networks

The MikroTik cAP ax is a ceiling-mount dual-band Wi-Fi 6 access point designed for dense and stable wireless coverage in offices, hotels, shopping malls, and any high-density environments with large numbers of concurrent users. It is widely used as the primary element in enterprise and hospitality wireless networks managed centrally via CAPsMAN, where signal must penetrate glass, metal, and partition walls without noticeable performance degradation. Ceiling mounting positions the access point above physical obstacles in the space, maximizing coverage and minimizing interference — while remaining discreet and unnoticed by end users.

The access point features a quad-core ARM64 IPQ-6010 processor running at up to 1.8 GHz with 1 GB RAM and 128 MB NAND storage, providing resources for complex firewall rules, hardware IPsec, WireGuard, BGP, and multiple VPN tunnels without impacting wireless performance. Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 AX1800 covers 2.4 GHz (574 Mbps, 6 dBi antenna) and 5 GHz (1200 Mbps, 5.5 dBi antenna), with speed improvements of up to 90% on 2.4 GHz and 40% on 5 GHz compared to the previous generation. Support for OWE, WPA3-PSK, WPA3-EAP, and 802.11r roaming completes the security and mobility feature set required in enterprise environments.

The cAP ax integrates into centrally managed wireless networks through the wifiwave2 CAPsMAN system in RouterOS v7, enabling simultaneous configuration and administration of hundreds of units from the main router interface. PoE-in 802.3af/at on Ether1 eliminates the need for a separate power outlet, while passive PoE-out on Ether2 allows powering a network switch, CCTV camera, or another cAP ax — reducing cabling complexity in dense installations. Alternative DC jack powering at 18-57 V provides additional installation flexibility.

It is recommended for open-plan and cubicle offices where wireless signal must overcome multiple physical obstacles, hotels and hospitality venues with high wireless client density, shopping centers and public spaces requiring continuous and uniform coverage, and enterprise infrastructures where centralized CAPsMAN management and WPA3/802.11r authentication are mandatory requirements. An operating temperature range of -40°C to +70°C and CE, FCC, IC certifications confirm suitability for commercial environments across Europe and North America.
