Dell PowerEdge R740xd Server 24x SAS/SATA and 12x NVMe – Enterprise Platform for Virtualization and Datacenter Storage

The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rack server built for high-capacity storage and virtualization in enterprise data centers. It is widely used as a software-defined storage server, a VMware virtualization host and a VDI platform, where both data volume and performance are critical.

The server pairs two Intel Xeon Scalable processors with a highly flexible storage design. It supports up to 24 NVMe drives and lets you mix NVMe, SSD and HDD to favor speed, capacity or both. Dedicated M.2 modules host the operating system, keeping every drive bay free for data. Its 24 DDR4 memory slots provide ample headroom for virtual machines and databases. In compatible configurations, GPU or FPGA accelerators can be added for demanding workloads.

The R740xd fits into existing environments through iDRAC9 and OpenManage Enterprise, which provide remote management and centralized monitoring across server fleets. It runs VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE and Ubuntu LTS, and can serve as a node in vSAN or ScaleIO clusters. Security covers Secure Boot, cryptographically signed firmware, Server Lockdown and secure data erase at end of life. Redundant hot-plug power supplies and fans support continuous operation.

Recommended for private cloud and virtualization, software-defined storage, virtual desktop infrastructure, hosting providers and ISPs, and growing data workloads that need capacity added in stages.
