MikroTik LHG 5 — Outdoor 5GHz Wireless CPE 24.5dBi for SMB and Enterprise Point-to-Point Links

Long-range wireless links depend on antenna gain and signal stability rather than on raw transmit power. MikroTik LHG 5 addresses this requirement as a 5 GHz outdoor device with an integrated 24.5 dBi grid antenna, built for point-to-point backhaul and long-distance CPE deployments.

The dual-polarization antenna is integrated into the radio unit itself, which removes antenna cable losses and preserves the calculated link budget. The dual-chain 802.11a/n radio delivers up to 300 Mbit/s at the interface level, while the AR9344 platform running at 600 MHz with 64 MB of RAM sustains traffic processing under continuous load. Nv2 TDMA support reduces collisions and improves throughput on extended links, where propagation delay degrades the performance of standard CSMA-based mechanisms.

RouterOS with a Level 3 license allows the unit to operate as a subscriber terminal in an access network or as one end of a wireless bridge, with routing, filtering and monitoring handled on the device itself. Power is supplied over passive PoE across a wide 11-30 V range at a maximum consumption of 6 W, and the 10/100 port connects the unit to existing infrastructure over a single cable. The IP54 enclosure and grid design limit wind load, while the tested operating range of -40°C to +70°C supports outdoor installation in continental climates.

The device targets ISPs extending coverage into areas without cabled infrastructure, integrators building links between sites, and network administrators who need a dedicated wireless connection between buildings. Common deployments include connecting remote facilities, distant video surveillance points and branch offices where laying fibre is not economically justified. An estimated MTBF of approximately 100,000 hours at 25°C combined with low power draw makes it suitable for installation on masts, towers and locations with limited maintenance access.
