MikroTik KNOT Embedded LTE4 Industrial LTE Gateway

Industrial automation and IoT infrastructure require mobile connectivity in locations with no wired network and with mounting space limited to a few centimetres inside an automation cabinet. KNOT Embedded LTE4 is a compact industrial LTE gateway built for integrators, automation specialists and IoT system builders, delivering LTE Cat4 connectivity together with Bluetooth and GNSS. The unit mounts directly on a DIN rail and operates as a primary gateway, an LTE backup link, or a data collection node for sensor networks.

The LTE Cat4 modem reaches 150 Mbps downlink and 50 Mbps uplink with 2x2 MIMO on the downlink, supporting FDD bands 1, 3, 7, 8, 20 and 28A as well as TDD bands 38, 40 and 41, which covers regional network deployments including weak-signal areas served on 800 MHz. The hardware platform uses a 32-bit ARM Cortex A7 processor at 800 MHz with 256 MB of RAM and 512 MB of NAND storage, powered either over 802.3af/at PoE at 12–57 V or over USB-C at 5 V, drawing up to 7 W. Passive cooling and a tested operating range of -40°C to 70°C allow installation in automation cabinets, technical enclosures and protected outdoor points.

Local connectivity includes one Gigabit Ethernet port with PoE-in, Bluetooth 5.4 for IoT sensors and beacons, GNSS for positioning and asset tracking, and eSIM support alongside the Nano SIM slot. The GPIO header provides digital inputs, an analog input and an open-drain output, all 24 V tolerant, for direct monitoring and control of connected equipment. RouterOS v7 supplies the full networking stack — routing, VPN, firewall, SMS control and notifications, automation scripting and remote management — and the device works with MikroTik centralised management.

KNOT Embedded LTE4 serves smart city projects covering parking, sensors and remote metering, monitoring of coffee and vending machines, industrial automation cabinets, and utility or environmental monitoring systems. It is deployed for vehicle and asset tracking over GNSS, in retail kiosks, payment terminals and digital signage, and as an LTE backup link for existing Ethernet equipment. The unit operates with external antennas, selected separately according to the installation environment and the network coverage available on site.
