MikroTik GESP – Gigabit Ethernet Surge Protector for SMB, Enterprise and ISP Networks

Ethernet surge protection is a critical requirement for any outdoor network deployment where long cable runs between masts, towers, or buildings create exposure to lightning-induced voltage spikes. The MikroTik GESP is a Gigabit Ethernet surge protector housed in a new-revision IP67 weatherproof enclosure, designed to shield network equipment from lightning damage and transient overvoltage events. The device is deployed in pairs — one unit at each end of the exposed cable segment — providing end-to-end protection for the full cable run.

The IP67-rated enclosure enables permanent outdoor installation directly on a mast, rackmount, or any grounded metallic structure without additional weatherproofing. Rated for approximately 100,000 hours at 25°C — equivalent to over 11 years of continuous operation under normal thermal conditions — the GESP is engineered for long-term deployment in demanding environments. Proper grounding via the included grounding wire is mandatory: without a reliable earth connection, the device cannot dissipate surge energy and protection is compromised.

GESP supports Gigabit Ethernet and integrates transparently into existing network infrastructure with no software configuration or topology changes required. Installation is straightforward — the protector is inserted inline on the Ethernet cable at the entry and exit points of the exposed segment. The revised enclosure design maintains full backward compatibility with existing deployments while improving weatherproof integrity.
